Description
Human ??-defensin-2 (H??D-2) is an orally active, cysteine-rich antimicrobial peptide secreted by epithelial cells, with antibacterial, antiviral, and immunomodulatory activities. Human ??-defensin-2 binds CCR2, reduces NF-??B phosphorylation, increases CREB phosphorylation, inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokines, induces IL-10, and chemoattracts immune cells via CCR2/CCR6. Human ??-defensin-2 reduces smoke-induced pulmonary neutrophilia in mice, downregulates pulmonary pro-inflammatory signaling, promotes bacterial clearance, and improves colitis and asthma cytokine/lung resistance. Human ??-defensin-2 can be used in research on inflammatory bowel disease, bacterial infections, viral infections, and atopic asthma.
