Brevicidine
Description
Brevicidine is an antimicrobial peptide with selective bactericidal activity against Gram-negative pathogens. Brevicidine disrupts bacterial morphology by binding to polysaccharides (LPS) on the bacterial cell membrane and forming pores. Brevicidine causes dissipation of the proton motive force, outer membrane disruption, inhibition of ATP biosynthesis, and accumulation of reactive oxygen species in bacterial cells. As a sensitizer, Brevicidine exhibits synergistic activity when combined with various conventional antibiotics.
