Oncocin
Description
Oncocin is an antibacterial peptide. It belongs to the proline-rich antimicrobial peptides (PrAMPs). Oncocin is active against Gram-negative bacteria, with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 0.125-8 ??g/mL against clinical isolates and strains of 34 Enterobacteriaceae and non-fermenting bacteria. Oncocin binds to the substrate-binding domain of the chaperone protein DnaK. The dissociation constant of this binding is in the micromolar range. This binding of Oncocin leads to protein misfolding and aggregation, ultimately causing bacterial death.
