Retrocyclin-1
Description
Retrocyclin-1 is a cationic cyclic ??-defensin peptide. Retrocyclin-1 binds with high affinity to the HIV-1 gp41 ectodomain in a glycan-independent manner, with a Kd of 67.6 nM, and selectively targets the gp41 C-terminal heptad repeat region. Retrocyclin-1 has broad-spectrum antiviral activity against HIV-1, herpes simplex virus, and influenza A virus in vitro, and can inhibit HIV-1 infection in cell models and cervicovaginal tissue models. Retrocyclin-1 also possesses innate immune defense activity. Retrocyclin-1 can be used in research on human immunodeficiency virus type 1 and HIV-1 infection.
