Iturin A-2
Description
Iturin A-2 is a cyclic lipopeptide that can be found in B. subtilis and has inhibitory activity against the plant pathogenic fungus P. expansum (MIC of 8 ??g/disc). Iturin A-2 is cytotoxic to MCF-7 and BT474 breast cancer cells and HeLa cervical cancer cells, with IC50 values of 66.81, 95.04, and 77.5 ??g/mL, respectively. In greenhouse studies, Iturin A-2 at 100 and 300 mg/kg reduced the lesion area of southern corn leaf blight caused by B. maydis, and in field studies, concentrations of 300 and 500 mg/kg reduced the incidence of southern corn leaf blight. Iturin A-2 (12.5 ??g/mL) also inhibits cytokinesis of isolated fertilized starfish eggs without affecting nuclear division.
