Protease Activated Receptor Peptide

Protease activated receptors (PAR) are a subfamily of related G protein-coupled receptors, which are activated by cleavage of the extracellular domain. PARs are highly expressed in platelets, and in endothelial cells, fibroblasts, immune cells, myocytes, neurons. Protease, as the important regulators of cell behavior, survival and apoptosis, communicate to cells directly thorough PARs. Further, the termination and regulation of PAR signaling by endocytosis are currently available pharmacologic approaches.

Each PAR has different protease specificities, expression patterns, and functions in a various range of tissues and cell types. There are four mammalian members of the protease-activated receptor (PAR) family:

  • PAR1- (encoded by the gene F2R)
  • PAR2 – (encoded by the gene F2RL1)
  • PAR3 – (encoded by the gene F2RL2)
  • PAR4 – (encoded by the gene F2RL3)
