The melanocyte-stimulating hormones (MSH) are a family of peptide hormones, including: α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), β-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (β-MSH), and γ-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (γ-MSH).

The alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α–MSH) is a neuropeptide, it belongs to the melanocortin family. It has famous anti-inflammatory and anti-pyretic effects, and share several characteristics with antimicrobial peptides (AMPs).

MSH peptide can regulate the pigmentation of skin by increasing melanin production in melanocytes. Alphs-MSH is an endogenous melanocortin receptor agonist, it is also an anti-inflammatory peptide antagonizes proinflammatory mediators.
