Defensin
Defensins are a kind of antimicrobial peptides, which are the part of innate immune system in plants, fungi, invertebrate and vertebrate animals. They are host defense peptides with either direct antimicrobial activity or immune signaling activities. Defensins are typically 18-45 amino acids in length, with three or four conserved disulphide bonds.
Beta defensins are one family of vertebrate defensins, which are antimicrobial peptides implicated in epithelial surface. β-defensins are cationic, they can interact with the membrane of invading microbes, which are negative.
