Amylin peptide is a 37-residue peptide hormone, it is also known as islet amyloid polypeptide(IAPP). It is co-secreted with insulin from the pancreatic β-cells, at the approximate ratio of 1:100.

Amylin functions with insulin synergistically to regulate blood glucose levels, it can prevent post-prandial spikes in blood glucose levels by slowing gastric emptying and promoting satiety. In addition, it inhibits the secretion of the hormone glucagon to decelerate the new glucose in plasma.
