Magainin 2
Description
Magainin 2 (Magainin II) is an antimicrobial peptide (AMP) isolated from the skin of the African clawed frog. Magainin 2 shows antibiotic activity against many Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Magainin 2 is also active against protozoa. Magainin 2 exerts cytotoxic effects by preferentially interacting with anionic phospholipids that are abundant in bacterial membranes.
